The Littlest Giants

Nanotechnology is rapidly evolving. Gold-coated glass nanoshells that seek out cancer, bind to the cells and destroy them with a blast of heat triggered by a harmless infrared light are well into development. In the near future, nanotech will provide humans (or posthumans) with a supercharged immune system made of tiny nanobots that seek out and destroy any virus, harmful bacteria, or toxin.

We are learning from these microorganisms. Clostridium difficile is a bacteria that’s resistant to most antibiotics, known as a superbug. Recently it has been discovered that C. diff wears a protective coat of armor made of proteins. Not only does this open up a new understanding about how to fight such infections, but it will lead to important new applications in nanotechnology.

Nanotech is one of the most incredible scientific fields on the forefront of the posthuman revolution. This is just the beginning, and massive strides are being made with incredible speed. It seems like every day brings some exciting new news. The future is coming very fast.
